Notes/Domino Fix List
SPR # DCAL59ZNYTFixed in 6.0.4 release

Product Area: Client Technical Area: Editor Platform: Cross Platform

SPR# DCAL59ZNYT -

Technote Number: 1085961

Problem:
The detachment issue was reported to Quality Engineering as SPR# DCAL59ZNYT and
has been addressed in Notes client releases 6.0.4/6.5.1 by the introduction of
a new Notes.ini parameter. The behavior can now be controlled by the use of
the client Notes.ini parameter Shell_Links. Setting the parameter to a
numerical value of 1, for example, Shell_Links=1, avoids the issue.

Note: Any parameter that is added as the last line in the NOTES.INI file
requires that there be a hard carriage return (the ENTER key) after the last
line, to ensure that it will take effect. Without a hard carriage return, the
last line will not be recognized.

The attachment issue under Notes 5.x that resulted in a file being attached
rather than the .lnk file was reported to Quality Engineering as SPR# NEN4TBF74
and was addressed in Notes 6.0. Some customers found the revised behavior
unexpected, and the issue was reported as a regression in SPR# ABUI68TR7C.

Workarounds:
1. When saving an attachment, either re-type the filename entry in the Save...
dialog (do not use anything with the extension .lnk, as it is reserved by
Windows) or avoid using shortcuts and navigate to the folder directly.
2. When attaching files, avoid using shortcuts and navigate to the folder
directly.

Supporting Information:
Steps to reproduce the detach issue:

1. In Win98, NT, or XP, go to the c:\temp location and create a shortcut by
right-clicking on it.
2. Open a Notes memo with an attached file.
3. Right-click the attachment and select to detach it.
4. In the Location dialog box, select the "Shortcut to Temp" shortcut.
5. The name of the attachment (test.txt) is replaced by the name of the
shortcut with the .lnk extension as "Shortcut to temp.lnk".
